Strahov Monastery – a bit of history
The Royal Premonstratensian Canon at Strahov is one of the oldest monasteries of the Premonstratensian Order in the world. Since its foundation in 1143 it has withstood fires, wars, despotism and the communist regime.
Premonstrates as the order of canons, which was founded in 1120 by St. Norbert, are an integral part of the Roman Catholic Church, not only as a legal organization and self-contained unit.
Since its foundation, which has always been seen as an effort to reform canonic and priestly life, Premonstrates tried to live their life in the spirit of the so-called Premonstrate chapter. It is an intense liturgical life, Penetant, Eucharistic, and apostolic.
